Par<b> segmentation marketing<\/b>, on entend essentiellement la segmentation de client\u00e8le. Une entreprise segmente pour mieux r\u00e9pondre aux attentes des clients, pour exploiter de nouvelles opportunit\u00e9s de march\u00e9 et pour concentrer ses forces et son lieu de bataille.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Segmenter<\/b> un public consiste \u00e0 le d\u00e9couper en groupes homog\u00e8nes, en fonction de crit\u00e8res d\u00e9termin\u00e9s, chacun de ces groupes \u00e9tant distinct l&rsquo;un de l&rsquo;autre et pouvant \u00eatre choisi comme cible d&rsquo;une action marketing (toute segmentation doit \u00eatre op\u00e9rationnelle). Le terme de segmentation peut d\u00e9signer \u00e0 la fois le travail d&rsquo;analyse et de d\u00e9coupage d&rsquo;un march\u00e9 et la politique qui vise \u00e0 adapter son offre \u00e0 certains segments. Par souci de clart\u00e9 terminologique, on devrait r\u00e9server le terme de<b> segmentation<\/b> \u00e0 l&rsquo;analyse et celui de ciblage \u00e0 la politique d&rsquo;adaptation.\u00a0\u00bb&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00ab\u00a0Il existe deux grandes m\u00e9thodes de segmentation : 1) Les crit\u00e8res choisis<i> a priori<\/i>, lorsque les crit\u00e8res de segmentation sont simples et paraissent pertinents (exemple : pour le march\u00e9 du jouet, les crit\u00e8res d&rsquo;\u00e2ge, de sexe, de niveau de revenus des parents&#8230;). Une fois qu&rsquo;on a s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9 ces crit\u00e8res, on cherche \u00e0 mieux comprendre les segments ainsi obtenus. C&rsquo;est particuli\u00e8rement important quand les crit\u00e8res ne sont pas de nature socio-d\u00e9mographiques : il faut recouper ces segments avec des variables socio-d\u00e9mographiques par souci d&rsquo;op\u00e9rationnalit\u00e9 (pour d\u00e9terminer la taille des segments, leurs lieux de vie, les m\u00e9dias qu&rsquo;ils fr\u00e9quentent&#8230;). 2) La typologie ou segmentation statistique consiste \u00e0 regrouper les individus en fonction de leur proximit\u00e9, mesur\u00e9e par exemple par leurs r\u00e9ponses \u00e0 un questionnaire ou par des caract\u00e9ristiques observ\u00e9es. Il revient \u00e0 l&rsquo;analyste de savoir quel est le bon niveau de regroupement et donc de d\u00e9coupage de cette population, c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire le nombre de segments auquel on s&rsquo;arr\u00eate dans le traitement statistique.
